DIRECTIONS TO No9 Rue des Barrieres - SAINT SAVINIEN from the North, A10 junction 34 to St Jean d'Angeley
Follow signs to "Centre Ville" passing supermarket and MacDonalds on your right.After two roundabouts you approach the town with twin towers of the Abbey ahead of you. Take the right hand turning immediately after the hospital on your right. This is signposted ISLE D'OLERON and SAINT SAVINIEN
. If you get to the traffic lights you have overshot;DO NOT PANIC, Turn right at lights and follow signs to "ISLE D'OLERON and SAINT SAVINIEN
If not overshot, follow this road through straight across main Rochefort road
This goes through Bignay and Taillant to Saint Savinien where you cross the level crossing; bear right and down towards the river. Immediately before the traffic lights turn right up the Rue du Peu signposted "MAISON DE MONTFORT and EGLISE XIV century", go up this one way street with castle on your right. The top of this road is the junction with Rue des Barrières. We are on the left of this junction with a blue door and parking opposite.
From La Rochelle
Take major road direction " SAINTES, ROCHEFORT and BORDEAUX
Ignore siren signs off main road to Rochefort, and Isle d'Oleron but turn off at first exit direction Niort and Saintes (Green, not paying)
Follow direction Saintes IGNORing left turn at traffic lights towards NIORT
After a roundabout with a large agricultural building on left, look for LEFT hand turn signposted "CABARIOT" Takethis road. Do not turn off it to Cabariot but keep on through BORDS and Le PONTREAU. To a T junction with a railway bridge on your right. Turn under this and immediately turn left on to Rue du Roche Signposted "EGLISE XIIIc" Pass the new car park. About 100 yards further on the left is an open space used as a car park. We are the house directly opposite on the corner of a small street, the Rue du Peu, with a blue door
From BORDEAUX via the A10
From town or from Airport Merignac seek signs A10 PARIS, TOURS or SAINTES
Up A10 to turn off at SAINTES junction35.going direction Rochefort. If you have overshot and are on A837 then you have a long way to go From first turn off at Tonnay Charente follow direction Saintes as above.
However if you are now leaving the motorway at the Saintes exit you are entering on a ringroad of sorts. Take direction Centre Ville at the first roundabout, then at the second ignore Centre Ville and turn left towards TAILLEBOURG, then straight on at the next two roundabouts, then at the fifth roundabout ignore "centre ville" and take direction"TAILLEBOURG" - watch the roundabout, signposting is deceptive, you go round 270 degrees left. Take this road past Espagnol tile centre..Follow this road for about 5 miles. Turn right at St James, then left before level crossing and to Taillebourg. Through Taillebourg with river Charente on left, swing right across level crossing direction "SAINT SAVINIEN" crossing a (nearly) single lane bridge. Follow this road for about 4 miles.
In Saint Savinien pass under rail bridge (oncoming have priority) and pass the St Sav hotel on your left, then distillery on your right. At end turn left down hill, NOT right across level crossing, down towards the river; immediately before the traffic lights turn right up the Rue du Peu signposted "MAISON DE MONTFORT and EGLISE XIII century", go up this with castle on your right. The top of this road is the junction with Rue des Barrieres. We are on the left of this junction with parking opposite and a blue door
